Circle the Rock 2005 Billfish Tournament

CIRCLE THE ROCK 2005 BILLFISH TOURNAMENT
FUNDRAISER FOR WOO
HOSTED BY CABO MATAPALO SPORT FISHING
AT BANANA BAY MARINA

In February 2002 Captain Mike Hennessy started the very first fishing tournament  in the Osa Peninsula (Circle The Rock) to get the community of fisherman together for some fun and to promote the use of circle hooks.  This same year, Costa Rica declared circle hooks mandatory in all applications using bait.  This was a landmark step to a growing sport fishing industry.

Circle The Rock is a fun educational fishing tournament that is non profit and was designed to promote the use of circle hooks when fishing for sailfish and marlin to insure the species safe release and survival for future generations.  When proper techniques are used for catch and release of any fish species, the chance of survival for the fish is above 90%.

In 2005 Circle The Rock Tournament sponsored by Cabo Matapalo Sport Fishing at the Banana Bay Marina invited WOO to be the recipient of all proceeds from their fundraiser raffle.  They raised $2,500.00 to help WOO build and promote a recycling center for the Puerto Jimenez community.  Circle The Rock has made WOO the official non-profit group that they will support for all future tournaments.
