Puerto Jimenez Colegio Recycling Center

The Recycling Center of Puerto Jimenez, located at the public high school in town, was built by the Women of the Osa (WOO) in September 2006.  The Recycling Center was a gift from WOO to the children of the high school, and especially the children involved in RANA (stands for Rescatemos el Ambiente Natural Ahora or “rescue our environment now), the Ecology Club of the Colegio.  RANA had been recycling for a while, but they had no suitable facilities.  WOO had fund-raisers, sold t-shirts and worked to get donations to raise the money to build the center.  Phil Spier and Bosque del Cabo offered WOO a great deal of help in the actual building process.  WOO hopes the center will give the students a chance to learn about recycling and will also offer a convenient place for recycling for the residents of Puerto Jimenez and the surrounding areas.  WOO hopes to increase the awareness of the need to recycle with a campaign to promote the center to businesses and private homes in the area.
